Minneriya.com exists because The Gathering deserves more than a rushed afternoon squeezed between Sigiriya and Kandy. It is an independent travel guide to Minneriya National Park, its sister parks Kaudulla and Hurulu, and the ancient sites around them — written to be genuinely useful before you go and while you are there.
What we cover
- When to see The Gathering, and which park is best in which month.
- Morning versus afternoon safaris, private versus shared jeeps, and what fees to expect.
- Which safaris and tours are worth booking, ranked honestly and updated as ratings change.
- How to see elephants ethically — and why it matters.
- Where to stay in Habarana, Sigiriya and Giritale, and how to get here.
- The history of the Minneriya tank and the sights nearby: Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla and Ritigala.
How we research
Park details, journey times and prices are checked against official sources, operators, transport companies and booking platforms, and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide. Where a figure moves around — park fees revised by the Department of Wildlife Conservation, jeep rates, tuk-tuk fares — we give an approximate figure and say so.
Where we express an opinion, it is an opinion. We tell you when a day trip is exhausting, when a safari is overpriced and when the cheaper option is the better one.
How the site is funded
We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and a Trip.com partner. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only way this guide is funded — there is no advertising, no sponsored placements and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
Corrections
Park fees change, operators come and go, hotels change hands. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it. Write to us on the contact page.
